Howard Halstead is a British crime writer whose short stories are published in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and in crime anthlogies.

Halstead's Professor Moriarty story, “The Malady of the Mind Doctor”, appears in The Mammoth Book of the Adventures of Moriarty, edited by Maxim Jakubowski and published in the UK in October 2015 by Robinson (an imprint of Little, Brown). The US edition will be published by Skyhorse in August 2016.

"A Dark Symmetry", exploring a childhood mystery and fraternal loyalty, was published by Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine in the July 2015 edition, which also featured Joyce Carol Oates.

His acclaimed debut, "Limelight", which delves into the secrets and ambitions of film extras, appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine in 2014.
